A Four Month Old

When I was trying to take this picture Cormac kept grabbing the bear and pulling him closer to him. I suppose he wanted to snuggle. He has been feeling a little crummy since his shots yesterday. Can you believe I have a four month old? I can't. It has been going by so fast. It is so fun to watch Cormac grow and learn. He is such a smart, strong boy.

At four months Cormac:
~weighs 16 lbs 10 oz and is 26.5 inches long!
~has moved on from sucking on the side of his fist to sucking on his index finger. He prefers his left index finger to his right one.
~rolls from his back to his stomach, always over the left side. He also can roll from his stomach to his back, but he only does it on rare occasion. Usually he just gets mad that he's stuck on his stomach.
~loves to make noises! He loves to sing and talk to himself. He also enjoys blowing bubbles out of his mouth and makes noises that sound like he's pretending to blow boats out of the water. He also makes a hissing noise that is truly adorable.
~can grab on to things and can hold on (keep your hair away from this boy, he gets the little hairs at the back of the neck that hurt and won't let go).
~still likes to sleep swaddled.
~only likes the pacifier when it's time to sleep.
~smiles so much and will even laugh on occasion. But he's still pretty serious most of the time.
~loves to splash in the bath.
~has moved on from being fascinated with his hands to being fascinated with his feet.

This boy is so much fun. We love him so much! Now if we can just recover from those nasty shots.

Roll

Two mornings ago we had an exciting new development in our little family. I was in the living room doing yoga, Ammon was in the kitchen doing dishes, and Cormac was on the floor in the living room. He was in his play yard gazing up at the giraffe and elephant. I guess while I was in down dog Cormac decided that he wanted to do some yoga too. I came up out of down dog to see this:
Cormac hates being on his stomach. But he now loves to roll. So any time he gets turned over he gets upset pretty quick. He can roll back to his back, but has only done it twice and I don't think he has that one all figured out yet. He is also very close to crawling. He has the legs figured out and can scoot himself up, but doesn't have the arms figured out yet. To be honest, I'm not ready for that one yet. He'll be 4 months tomorrow! So here's to our little roller.

Waking Up

Every time Cormac wakes up he has to stretch. We usually swaddle him up at night (even thought he can get out of it if he wants, and has been able to do that since he was about 3 weeks old). When we unwrap him in the morning he stretches and then inspects his hands.

P.S. Please ignore the laundry that needs folded in the background. I did finally get it done.

The Mystery Van and Hot Dog Cart

As our faithful readers can probably remember, Ammon and I bought our home back in September. We bought the house "as is." Meaning, it was a mess and a nightmare. There were two treasures that were left behind. We were promised that those two items would only be here a short time. We fully expected them to be picked up before we moved into our home. We moved in on October 30th. Over a month after we had purchased the home. The two treasures were still there.

The first was this fabulous van. The van was locked and full of vacuum equipment. When we asked them to come get it they said that they had lost the keys. What? Well, in that case, call a tow truck.
The second was this lovely hot dog cart. Inside the little fridge thingy was a bunch of ice cream toppings. Not sure how long they have been in there. Don't really want to know. But how glorious to look out into the backyard everyday to see this beauty.

Ammon had called and asked them to come take these things away 3 different times. About a month ago they promised us that they were coming that week for sure. That didn't happen. I was beginning to despair. I was starting to make plans to just sell them. After all, we did buy the place "as is." But a happy thing happened on Friday. They came and picked up the van with promises that they would come on Saturday to pick up the hot dog cart. I had very little faith that it would happen. But they came! I guess our plans to start selling hot dogs on the corner can no longer happen. We'll take it though, I am so happy that the junk is gone!

February so far

I just wanted to share a few pictures of things that have been going on in our home so far this month.

Ammon grew a beard, and this is Cormac's first smile that has been captured on film (0r should I say captured digitally?).
This is usually the look Cormac gives me when I pick up the camera.
Our little 3 month old is getting big and strong fast. He is actually standing here, I am only keeping his balance for him, he can support his own weight.
Ammon and Cormac built their first fort.
Their second fort was much better. Unfortunately I failed to capture that one before the blankets were needed for movie night.
Life is going by quickly. It seems to change fast around here. But we are enjoying our time together. Sandy and Charlie are really looking forward to spring. I think we all are. Our home improvement is at a stand still, but hopefully we will get back to work here soon. I'll be posting some pictures of our progress soon.

Sleep Deprived

Last Sunday night the adorable little boy pictured here slept 9.5 hours, and there was much rejoicing. I thought I had died and gone to heaven. I was so sure we were finally making progress, and that from there on out I would be enjoying long nights of great sleep. Or at least that those nights would outweigh the nights of getting up.

Before this last Sunday we had gotten Cormac to only wake up once during the night. Then he would wake again at about 6:00 or 7:00, but would usually go back to sleep until 9 or 10. The two nights leading up to Sunday night were horrible. He woke up every 2 to 3 hours. It was miserable. I was exhausted. But it was okay because just when I thought I could do it no more, he finally slept through the night and there was hope.

Well, that is all gone now. He went back to his waking 2 times a night. Then last night he woke up every hour. Literally. Every. Single. Hour. From 11:00 on. I can't do this anymore. Does anyone want to come over and take the night shift?

Five Years

Yesterday Ammon and I celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary. It is much more difficult to have a romantic evening than it used to be. Three month olds do not like seafood or Phantom of the Opera. I had been craving Red Lobster, so Ammon picked some up after work, and I set a fancy table for us to eat here at home. As I was getting the water pitcher out of the strainer the handle broke off and cut up 2 of my fingers. Only one of the cuts is bad, but they all bled a lot. Sad. Then we watched Phantom of the Opera. Back when we were engaged Ammon took me to see that movie right after it came out. It was a wonderful date, so I thought we would relive it last night. Cormac does not appreciate it, and he cried through most of it. All three of us collapsed into bed at about 10:00 last night from exhaustion. Whew. My parents had 2 kids during their 5 year anniversary. We may never get to that point (the 2 kids, not the 5 years).

As I was contemplating what to blog about I thought of a story that I feel demonstrates the kind of relationship Ammon and I have.

My father loves the above pictured floss thingy. I do not really know what they are called. I have never been a big fan. Well, this summer Ammon and I got a bunch of them for free. So one night I decided that I might as well use them. I always start flossing from the very back on the bottom left hand side. I placed the floss in between two of my teeth, and as I tried to pull it out from between the teeth I was reminded of why I have never cared for these things. My bottom teeth are spaced very close together. After pulling for a long time I finally had to admit that it was not coming out without taking one of my teeth with it. So, I did the only natural thing I could think of, I turned to Ammon so that he could try. He gently pulled a little and realized the situation so he gave that up, not wanting to hurt me. But you know Ammon, he is a thinker. He grabbed a small pair of scissors and told me to open wide. We were both laughing so hard at this point it is a miracle that there were no accidents, but Ammon quickly freed me from the evil floss, and I continued the job the traditional way.

So, I think that this story demonstrates a lot about us. We rely on each other. We laugh a lot. We trust each other. Ammon has a very level head and steady hand (lucky for my mouth). I can't live without Ammon, he gets me out of all kinds of crazy situations. Ammon would never hurt me. I like to think I would never hurt him. I am a spaz most of the time. And Ammon is handy with all kind of tools. And, of course, we are still very in love.
